School fruit
The School Fruit programme involves irregular supplies of fruits and vegetables or selected fruit and vegetable products to schools.
Thanks to the programme, children attending Slovak nursery schools and pupils in elementary schools may consume fresh fruit and vegetables grown in our region. The price of the supplied fruit and vegetables is paid in 80% by the EU and in 20% by the children/parents.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
- The purpose of the programme is to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables among preschool and school children,
- change the dietary habits of children at the early school age,
- reduce the occurrence of overweight and obesity in children,
- support healthy diet, and increase awareness of the nutritional values of the individual types of fruit and vegetables.
TARGET GROUP
The target group consists of children in nursery schools or pupils in elementary schools, children or pupils with disabilities in nursery and elementary schools, and talented children or pupils in nursery and elementary schools aged 3–15 years.
THE RECOMMENDED WEIGHT OF THE DAILY PORTION:
- Up to 200 g of fresh fruit or vegetables or fruit puree
- Up to 200 ml of fruit or vegetable juice
The daily portion of up to 200 g represents 1 and more pieces of fruit, depending on their weight, size and type, or 200 ml of fruit or vegetable juice.
FRUIT AND VEGETABLE SUPPLIES FREQUENCY:
Shake all of the ingredients, except the mint, in a shaker and pour the mixture through a bar strainer into a pre-chilled glass.
IMPORTANCE OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES IN A DIET
Fruit and vegetables have an irreplaceable place in our diet due to their high contents of vitamins, minerals, fibres and other important substances that have beneficial effects on the physiological process in a human body.
Fruit and vegetables contain 5 substances that are most important for the body as they improve our fitness and immunity system and are an excellent source of natural energy.
- Vitamins – they support the function of important bodily organs.
- Fibre – it supports the function of stomach and intestines and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
- Fatty acids – they are valuable and contained in the peels of the fleshy fruit.
- Fructose and other simple sugars – they give energy to the body.
- Minerals – especially potassium – they have positive effects on the biochemical processes.
WE SUPPLY FRUIT AND JUICES
GAS Familia, s.r.o., is one of the suppliers of fresh fruit and juices for approximately 11,000 children in nursery schools and pupils in elementary schools. As a result, several times a month, children in the districts of Stará Ľubovňa, Bardejov and Kežmarok may enjoy fresh fruit and healthy 100% juices with no added sugar, water, preservatives or synthetic colourants.
IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2014/2015, WE PLAN TO SUPPLY:
a) Fruit – apples, pears, peaches, apricots;
b) Juices – Apple, Apple and Carrot;
c) Fruit puree;
while the supplies depend on the current season and harvest.
